When I listened to Coasta's EP, my first reaction was, "how the hell did I not listen to this before September?!!". This album is ridiculously good, and crazy diverse. Each song can be pretty different from the next, but at the same time, all the tracks seem to fit so well together.
The first track, "Young Blood" really gets you in the mood with its groovy rock with perfect drum-work in the background. Then slips in "The Slide" (see what I did there?), an acoustic-driven, southern-ish folk-rocker. But, even when you think you have the song figured out, there's a somewhat haunting chorus of voices shimmering in the background. This is easily one of the best songs on the EP.
Next up is "Michael Traction", driven by a steady drum beat and plucked guitars, but then comes the chorus filled with so many great chords. "Sirens" also boasts some great surf-rock with some very good chord progressions. The album ends with "Sunzal" which probably sounds most like an indie, folk song with some interesting keyboards thrown in for good measure. It's a nice send off for a really great album.
I'm pretty disappointed I didn't know about this album when it was first released, but I'm glad I finally managed to hear it now. Definitely the best EP I've heard so far this year. Really looking forward to hearing more from these guys. Do not hesitate to check them out!
